ORIGAMI FOR KIDS

In Japan, Origami is an integral part of growing up, deeply ingrained into daily life, and a form of self-expression as much as it is a revered form of art.

We, at KAMI hold a solemn reverence for Origami, and are delighted to share with you the availability of our latest workshop: Origami for Kids, with our lovely Origamist, Asami.

For Asami, Origami isn't just art, but something that she has live and breathed since childhood, growing up in Japan.  She has always had a fondness for the delicate craft, and loves nothing more than to help other children create memories of making entire worlds with humble sheets of paper.

This love for children extends into her daily life as a real-life school teacher, guiding young children on a daily basis, and makes her particularly suited to share this living art with children

This class is kept to around 7 kids so our teacher can give them plenty of attention.

To warm up, we will welcome the children with yummy homemade, all-natural, morning tea and let them introduce themselves a little before we start the class.

Parents are expected to drop their children off.  Please inform us of any allergies or special instructions.

We encourage parents to have a nice morning, exploring Fitzroy, or locating any of the legions of amazing cafes to chill out in, one of our favorites is Alimentary at 251 Brunswick Street, which is located few minutes walk from us.

IMPROVING YOUNG MINDS ONE FOLD AT A TIME

Being able to transform a flat sheet of paper into a 3-dimensional form, using only hands, seems almost magical.

Origami is not just fun and pretty looking, research shows that it helps us focus, relaxation, and builds muscle memory.

Origami is commonly used as art therapy for good reasons and it is one of the best activities for developing children's cognitive and fine motor skills.

From age 5 onward, children are typically able to understand instructions, rules and steps, and Origami provides a suitable activity to improve those developing skills.

There's also potential for Children to discover, through Origami, the principles of math and geometry and take their fun to the next level.
